Batumi Hosting ‘The Past and Present of the Georgian Print Media’ Exhibition

‘The Past and Present of the Georgian Print Media’, an exhibition, opened at Batumi Akaki Tsereteli Municipal Library on 12 October.  The exhibition, which was organized by the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, will be open for the public until October 24.

The financial support for the project has been provided by the Open Society Georgia Foundation (OSGF).

The exhibition has displayed over 100 exhibits, including photo materials and original copies of unique publications, which reflect the history of Georgian periodicals from 1819 to date.

For the first time, exhibition organizers presented to the Georgian public retrospective, chronologically arranged Georgian periodicals clearly showing the history of the development of the Georgian print media.

Parallel to the exhibition, experts of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia made presentations during two days on the following topics: the development of the Georgian press and the history of the development of advertising in the Georgian media, the electronic catalogue of Georgian newspapers and the digital library of Georgian magazines.  Presentations were followed by discussions over the potential cooperation of libraries, the media and a non-governmental sector.

Initially, ‘The Past and Present of the Georgian Print Media’ exhibition opened at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia in Tbilisi on 2 May 2011 to mark the World Press Freedom Day.  The support for the exhibition was provided by the OSGF.
