Drug Situation in Georgia International Conference

On December 8, 2009, in Tbilisi Marriot Hotel, Women’s Association Peoni and Penal Reform International (PRI) have conducted Conference titled Drug Situation in Georgia – Prospects and Steps towards European Integration. Event has been supported by the European Commission Delegation to Georgia, Polish Embassy in Tbilisi and Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia.  

The event pursued the goal of determining problems related to drug addiction, consolidation of existing resources, sharing and application of European experience.

In the course of the Conference, Georgian and Polish experts considered vision of drug situation, Polish experience in prevention of drug use and medical treatment of drug addicts; legal inconsistencies between international and domestic legislation; involvement of the Patriarchy in psychological and social rehabilitation of drug addicts and issues or psychological and social rehabilitation of drug addicts in confinement institutions.  

It should be noted that Peoni Women’s Association with financial support of the Open Society – Georgia Foundation, is carrying out Project of Psychological and Social Rehabilitation of Drug Addicts in the Institution N 5 of High and General Security for Women and Underages.
