From April until October 2008, our mobile festival group will travel throughout the South Caucasus. South Caucasus Documentary Film Festival of Peace and Human Rights “Nationality: human” is held for the second time this year.

The “Nationality: human” Film Festival

  • The idea of this film festival arose in 2005 among partners and friends of the “Open Society-Georgia” Foundation and the German Heinrich Boell Foundation, which has been working on peace-building projects with partners throughout the South Caucasus for several years. In the Prague-based One World festival, we found an experienced partner that shares our philosophy.

The “Nationality: human” Film Festival

  • will screen recent documentary films from different parts of the world in various cities and regions of the South Caucasus. Believing that the world is one and the language of cinema knows no borders, we think viewers in the Caucasus will be able to see themselves in the fates of people from other parts of the world, in their struggles for peace and justice.

The “Nationality: human” Film Festival

  • is non-competitive. In our jury there are young filmmakers, film critics and NGO activists from the South Caucasus, Germany and the Czech Republic. They have selected nine recent documentaries of international reputation. Of these our local co-organizers can choose six to compose a three-day programme.

The “Nationality: human” Film Festival

  • is a festival “on wheels”. Our mobile cinema-team will travel to 27 locations throughout the South Caucasus with our cinemabus, bringing all the technical equipment needed for screening. 27 local partners – NGOs, schools, universities, and initiative groups – selected by our jury will host the festival and co-organise additional local cultural events and peace actions.

This project is supported by the Heinrich Boell Foundation, the South Caucasus foundations of Open Society Institute’s (OSI) network, the Eurasia Partnership Foundation, the Embassy of Switzerland in Georgia. The Georgian National Broadcaster is the festival’s media partner. Sakdoc Film in partnership with the Georgian National Museum is our co-organizer of the festival in Tbilisi
