Statement of the Civil Society of Georgia

August 10, 2008

Georgia is openly invaded by Russian military forces. Cities and villages of the entire Georgia are bombed. Hundreds of civilians killed, thousands of people are homeless, material loss for the country infrastructure is vast.

Georgia is against war. We are punished for our aspiration to become part of democratic world. Today our choice for the West is threatened. Russian aggression is a challenge to the international community as well.

We, the civil society organizations of Georgia call for:

  • World democratic community to take quick and effective measures to stop Russian intervention;
  • Armed forces of Russian Federation to leave immediately territory of Georgia.

Every minute is critical for the lives of innocent civilians in Georgia.
