The Black Sea regional identity

In Gudauri on January 17-19, 2008 was organized a workshop within the framework of the Integration and Civil Education program in-house project which aimed at promoting construction of the Black Sea identity via revitalization of common cultural heritage.

In Gudauri on January 17-19, 2008 was organized a workshop: “The Black sea regional Identity: history, culture, politics”. The meeting was held within the framework of the Integration and Civil Education program in-house project which aimed at constructing the Black Sea identity via revitalization of cultural heritage.

Representatives of social and humanitarian sciences, historians, art critics, political scientist interested in the problem of regional identity took part in the workshop. It was an introductory meeting to an international conference planned in May, 2008.

During the meeting it was mentioned that the black Sea littoral countries face similar problems: security, consolidation of democracy, promotion of liberal values, and integration in Euro-Atlantic structures that requires joint efforts. But besides the common interest, there exists common cultural heritage and its reactivation will contribute to the development of common regional area.
