This Effects You Too introduced new legislative proposals to international organizations and political parties

On May 17, NGOs and media organizations involved in the This Affects You Too campaign introduced to international organizations and political parties proposed amendments to the Election Code.

The legislative initiative was considered by the diplomatic corps accredited to Georgia, local and international organizations as well as political parties. During the meeting, This Affects You Too campaigner NGOs and media organizations distributed an appeal to Parliament, in which they call for the law-making body to improve election legislation. The appeal has been already joined by 67 NGOs and media organizations. The collection of signatures continues.

The authors of the legislative initiative talked during the meeting about the gaps in current legislation. They introduced their own proposals, which they say will secure the improvement of election day procedures, equal media coverage of political parties during the election campaign, unrestricted broadcasting by cable operators and better media and election environment in the country.

This Affects You Too campaigner NGOs and media organizations launched the second stage of the campaign on May 7, 2012. The campaign calls for amendments to the Election Code and improvement of a media environment in the election period. As part of the campaign, on May 7, the campaign participants submitted a package bill to Parliament of Georgia. On the same day, the legislative proposals were considered by the Parliament bureau, after which the package was submitted to the Legal Issues Committee of Parliament.

TBILISI, DFWatch – A pro-democracy campaign in Georgia calls on the Saakashvili regime to not stall a negotiated deal intended to secure a more fair election in October.

The campaign sent a letter appealing to the president and speaker of parliament to start reviewing the proposed amendments as soon as possible, because they believe these amendments will significantly improve the election environment in the country.

Pro-democracy campaign wants equal access to media, dfwatch.net, 18 may

TBILISI, DFWatch – A pro-democracy campaign in Georgia Thursday presented their latest package of modifications to various aspects of the election system, as there are four months left until the parliamentary elections.

Among issues they presented to an audience of political parties, local and international organization representatives, was improving the procedure to count votes on election day, transparency in the election administration, regulate the usage of administrative reaction, providing equal access to the media for political parties during the election year, equal access to outdoors advertisement, as well as ‘must carry’ and ‘must offer’.
